Lynn Maverick Denzer
Most of my life has been touched by art as an interest and practice and in the profession of teaching. I first remember at the McNAy Art Museum, at age three walking up a tree lined path to receive my award for drawing “ My sister with the Chocolate Eyes”. Some other highlights include, in my junior year at McCallum High School being chosen to participate in the teen summer program at the University of Texas at Austin, where I furthered my creative skills. I studied Art at U.T. in Austin, College of Marin, California, San Antonio College and U.T. San Antonio. Private institution art classes include San Antonio Southwest Craft Center in metal smithing, and Carver Community Cultural Center in ceramics. My knowledge in a variety of mediums was extended by my teaching career.
I taught Art at Scobee Jr. High, Southwest District, San Antonio for seven years, from 2003-2011, becoming familiar with the use of elements and a variety of mediums, and have been influenced by the creativity of all stages and backgrounds of youth. I particularly enjoy creating lessons that teach about cultural practices or encourage creative experimenting. I also taught English and Reading in the same district, strengthening my scope in the relevance of composition, focus, and theme.
I have given workshops on constructing corn husk assemblages to children and adults at Celebration
Circle, and Parks and Recreation. Currently I am teaching children, adult and senior art classes at Inspire Fine Arts.
To me contemporary art is whatever the creative genius of the artist produces in their voyage of expression through artworks . Though abstracts intrigue me, I tend to create more symbolic realism, because I find beauty in nature and life. I guess in that sense I am a realist, but love creating some expressive techniques. I am continuing my use of mainly water colors, which I find expansive in practicing new techniques, reading the Tao 0f Watercolor, and am employing some of those techniques in my compositions. I will also use this and other references, including my experience and insights in teaching small group classes, which I have been asked to conduct through Celebration Circle and Hiwire Arts and also for Inspire Fine Arts.Other mediums include painting in Acrylic and textured collage, corn husk and found object assembly sculptures, and ceramic sculpting, and short story composition to accompany my art.You may view samples of my artwork at lynn-maverick-denzer.artistwebsites.com.
